Block Printed Bags
Block printing was first used by the Tang Dynasty in China between the 4th and 7th century. It began as blocks cut from wood used to print textiles and reproduce short Buddhist religious texts that were carried as charms by believers. The process of block printing is labor intensive and requires a high level of craftsmanship, particularly when carving the wood blocks that are used for each color of a design.
Our bags are handmade by our partner in Rajpur, India. Rajpur is home to some of the neediest people on the planet. Many grew up begging and had no skills, education, identities, or even birthdays. They suffer from hunger, abuse, leprosy, drug addiction, and chronic illnesses. Their mission is to provide hope, opportunity and dignity with not only steady jobs and a good work environment, but a daily meal plan, education for their children, English and vocational training, and medical care.
