Blue Lidded Basket
Craftswomen in Rwanda use timeless traditions to weave carefully dyed sisal fibers and sweet grass to make one of a kind baskets. Baskets carry their own symbolism in Rwanda because friends give them to celebrate major life events such as weddings, births and graduations and are proudly displayed as symbols of wealth of friends, family and life. This basket creates viable business and income opportunities for poor and rural people in Rwanda by solving the issue of lack of income and creating jobs that make people proud, restore dignity and provide access to health care. The lidded basket is perfect to store household items, fruit, or to package the perfect present, as they do in Rwanda.

Meet the Maker
Our partner invests in artisans to generate a permanent gain in family income by providing a “market bundle” model that includes education, finance, materials, training and market access. They are leading a new way of helping rural families achieve their full potential. Instead of giving handouts, they invest in artisans to generate a permanent gain in family income. Focusing in the under-served areas of rural Africa, they help to create jobs that are dignified and establish true partnerships.
