Bronwen Tweed Tote
Our partner is passionate about social justice and fair trade. All of the women that handcraft their bags are trained on the job at the workshop in Hanoi. Each person is encouraged to progress and learn new skills so that they can be promoted. The working conditions at the workshops are clean and safe and the staff have regular breaks and days off work. There is flexibility for mothers who breastfeed as well as a system in place for women who are unable to come to work due to a child being ill and off school for example. Our partner pays national insurance for each staff member that covers medical costs and provides a pension for retirement all of which is above the national legal requirements.
With every item purchased with us, a tree is planted in partnership with the National Forest Foundation.
Vietnamese hand embroidery is a 700-year-old tradition. Usually, tiny threads are used to create brightly colored pictures on cloth. It is a popular extracurricular activity for young girls in high school together with cooking and sewing. It was a part of Vietnamese culture; traditionally, girls are expected to know how to decorate bags, pillowcases, curtains and tablecloths with hand embroidery.
