Backbay Kantha Cushion
$ 69.00 $ 32.00
Handmade in Bangladesh by young women that are at great risk of being sold into trafficking and are often discarded by husbands or families when they are deemed "expendable." Our partner's vision is to help these women rediscover their dignity and inherent value not only through meaningful work, but also by welcoming them as part of their family.
Handmade using upcycled sari fabric. With every item purchased with us, a tree is planted in partnership with the National Forest Foundation.
Colorful patterned saris dot the Bangladeshi landscape, worn by women cultivating rice, fetching water, resting in the shade or cooking the family meal. Once discarded, the sari’s life has only just begun. For centuries, Bengali women have painstakingly stitched their time-softened saris with straight, even stitches into items of beauty. This traditional technique is known as kantha stitching.
