Handmade in Bolivia with a mission is to combat social, economic, and cultural equality issues that many Bolivian women face. Our partner promotes active citizenship and empowerment of women's organizations through training processes, and a generation of information and knowledge. The cooperative is both a family and a workplace, allowing women to express themselves as artists, businesswomen, and equal citizens of their communities.
Handwoven of 100% organic alpaca, a natural, hypoallergenic & sustainable material celebrated for its quality and warmth. With every item purchased with us, a tree is planted in partnership with the National Forest Foundation.
The Incas, who unified and ruled the Andes for about 100 years, held the alpacas in especially high regard, reserving garments made from alpaca fleece for use only by royalty. In the 1500’s, the Spanish Conquistadors conquered and subjugated the Inca Empire and tried to decimate the alpaca and replace them with their own sheep. Because the alpacas had adapted to the harsh climate and high altitude of the Andes Mountains in Bolivia, Chile, and Peru, the Spanish attempt to destroy them was not successful.
