Meet the Maker

Our partner works for a fairer trade by training deaf mute individuals in Cambodia. Individuals with disabilities are often regarded with fear and mistrust which makes obtaining a job extremely difficult. Much of Cambodia’s disabled population is forced to live in poverty and separate from the general population. Their mission is to empower disabled women living in Phnom Penh with skilled training and dignified employment that highlights their craftsmanship and value as artisans. They follow a motto of “do not produce more.” The materials used to create their purses and bags are surplus textiles sourced from local markets. These fabrics are then combined to create unique one-of-a-kind pieces that are designed and sewn by hand.
