Wide Paper Mache Bangles | Set of 3
In cooperation with small groups of artists in Northern India and Kashmir, our partner works to bring fair trade and sustainable jobs to families. In the three years of their partnership, artists have seen an increase of 25% in their income which has relieved many older children from having to work to help support their families. They are encouraged to stay in school longer, which is driving average literacy rates up. More girls are continuing their educations, strengthening female voices and status in the community.
Handmade with recycled wood and paper and painted by hand using non-toxic paints. And with every item purchased with us, a tree is planted in partnership with the National Forest Foundation.
The Persian art of papier maché was brought to the Himalayan region of northern India centuries ago. Today the state of Kashmir is home to thousands of artisans who craft papier maché products for their livelihood. Artisans first soak used newspaper for several days until the paper disintegrates, then mixes it with cloth, rice or straw to form a pulp.
