Yellow Elephant Soap Dish
Handmade in cooperation with two groups, consisting of a combined 55 artisans in Rajasthan, India. Our partner seeks to improve artisans’ quality of life and ensure sustainability of their craft. Social development programs such as training, education and health care go hand-in-hand with environmental impact projects such as recycling, water filtration and solar-powered energy. Conserving resources and caring for the environment ensures sustainable employment can be passed down through generations.
This soap dish is hand painted using lead-free glaze and compostable clay. And with every item purchased with us, a tree is planted in partnership with the National Forest Foundation.
Pottery is an age-old art in India. Artisans use a potter’s wheel, handmade mold, or their hands to shape natural clay into beautiful pieces of art. Pottery is considered to be a mystical trade because it incorporates five vital elements: air, fire, earth, water, and ether. Passed down from generation to generation, this art dates back all the way to Bronze Age and the Indus Valley civilization.
